When was the last time you actually laid in bed and got some good sleep? Being able to shut the world out has been something that I have struggled with for a while. My mind is usually restless from sun up to sundown. After months of sleepless nights, I knew that I needed to clear my head and hop on a flight to Seattle.
Not too long ago, I traveled to Seattle to lay in bed without a care in the world. In a city that shines light even on its darkest days, it seemed the perfect spot. With a packed itinerary, I knew I wouldn’t be getting much sleep, but I definitely would find tranquility. Traveling to the Pacific Northwest, I thought there would be nothing but gloomy weather. But to my surprise, it was nothing but sunshine and crosswalks paved with rainbows (we’ll get to that later). Here are a few highlights from my trip:
Things to Eat
The name alone caught my attention as I planned my trip. TripAdvisor recommended the local restaurant as a perfect spot for brunch and friendly morning vibes. The main course on the menu is a variety of biscuits and gravy, so you can easily get a hearty meal and laugh as you choose your food. I had a hard time picking among the many choices, so I played it safe and ordered an Easy Bitch with the strawberry lemonade. It. Was. Delicious.
Things to See
When you live near the sea, the possibilities become endless when it comes to local attractions. A daily market near the pier brings tourists and locals alike to the harbor to grab bites to eat, shop or just to enjoy a beautiful day in the city. My favorite restaurant at Pike’s Market was Beecher’s Mac and Cheese. If you prefer creamy cheese over baked macaroni, it’s sheer gooey goodness. It is also in the same area as the Gum Wall, and yes it is exactly as it sounds.
By following the train from Pike Market, I came across another world. The sidewalk transforms into rainbow crosswalks, full of colors would normally stand out in the cloudy gloom. Every street that you turn down is filled with local shops, well-known bars and eclectic individuals that struck the streets like a red carpet. It was interesting to find such a peaceful yet creative community that populated the city. Seattle is a city of outdoors and exploring. It provided easy ways to navigate through the city and the locals only made things better with their hospitality.
